A workshop that opens the door to a globally proven, locally adaptable model for strengthening pediatric trauma care in crisis‑affected and underserved settings.   The Pediatric Trauma Fundamentals (PTF) program—developed by the Boston Children’s Hospital Margaret C. Ryan Global Health Program through its Children in Crisis initiative—has supported pediatric health systems in more than 60 countries. Rooted in the realities of humanitarian emergencies and resource‑limited environments, PTF equips allied health professionals with the essential skills needed to deliver acute care to injured children. Since its launch, the course has been implemented and adapted across conflict‑affected Ukraine, the Palestinian territories, and U.S. Indigenous communities, each time aligning with local practice norms, system capacity, and cultural context.

A defining strength of PTF is its sustainability model. Programs begin with high‑volume foundational training, progress to a structured Training of Trainers pathway, and culminate in a master instructor trainer model that enables full local ownership. Partner institutions have integrated PTF into national curricula, Ministry of Health certification processes, and long‑term health system infrastructure—demonstrating its scalability and durability across diverse settings.

This workshop introduces participants to the PTF framework, its evidence‑informed design, and its adaptability for global emergency medicine and humanitarian work. Attendees gain hands‑on access to the complete PTF delivery package, ready for immediate contextualization and use in their own environments.

Train with purpose. Localize with confidence. Strengthen pediatric trauma care where it’s needed most.

In this workshop, we are pleased to introduce the training concept “TDSC – Terror Disaster Surgical Care”, developed by the German Society for Trauma Surgery.

Established in the aftermath of the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris, this course was designed to prepare civilian physicians for the management of mass casualty incidents resulting from terrorist events. The program focuses on equipping participants with the medical, organizational, and strategic competencies required in high-pressure situations involving a large number of severely injured patients.

Key components of the workshop include:

  • The identification and treatment of thermomechanical injuries
  • Priority-driven decision-making under conditions of limited resources, including:
    • Categorization
    • Prioritization
    • Allocation
    • Implementation
  • The development of a critical operational mindset: transitioning from an individual patient-centered approach to a resource-adapted strategy aimed at maximizing overall survival (TASC – Tactical Abbreviated Surgical Care)
  • The practical application of acquired knowledge through a structured tabletop simulation exercise

The workshop combines theoretical foundations with practical training to enhance preparedness for complex and resource-constrained emergency scenarios.

* For participants from German-speaking countries, this course does not replace the TDSC course within the framework of certification in the Trauma Network (TNW) of the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU). However, participants who are already certified TDSC Providers may have this course recognized as a refresher course.

Background
Echocardiography is an essential tool in emergency medicine, yielding valuable information for physicians that directly affects diagnostic and management strategies. Resuscitative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is an increasingly common procedure performed in the emergency room, allowing for ongoing cardiac imaging during cardiopulmonary resuscitation as well as providing high‐resolution assessment of both cardiac and aortic anatomy in shock patients. However, despite the numerous benefits of ED TEE, the process of implementing this modality within a department is difficult.

Objective
after completion of this course, you will be able to
• describe a comprehensive resuscitative TOE exam in the ER and follow the safety measures
• identify what a TOE is good for (and what it’s not good for)
• manipulate the TOE probe to obtain the standard views for a resuscitative TOE study

Background
When conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CCPR) cannot restore spontaneous circulation, the initiation of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation during refractory cardiac arrest—known as extracorporeal CPR (ECPR)—might restore circulation and adequate tissue oxygenation. ECPR could substantially improve survival with favourable functional recovery. However, the complexity and time-sensitive nature of the intervention, high costs, resource demands, considerable risks, and complications restrict the availability of ECPR. Therefore, adequate training is not only necessary for physicians performing ECPR, but for all health-care-workers e.g. paramedics, emergency/critical care nurses or emergency physicians that are involved in the process of care for patients with OHCA being potential candidates for eCPR.

Objective
Didactic lectures: The objective o the lectures is to provide knowledge to the learners regarding the subjective of the respective lecture, especially the evidence and right patient selection for ECPR, performance of ECPR and post-ECPR-management.
Hands-on-Training: During this training each participant should gain practical knowledge of establishing va ECMO under CPR, priming the circuit, changing the oxygenator and pump head, use ultrasound for ECPR-initiation and manage important complications. In addition, the participant will be trained in team communication, problem identification as well as patient management.
